A meme, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is an idea, behaviour, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture.
Without a doubt, memes have become an indispensable part of our lives. It could be through scrolling on your fyp, watching your favourite series or even chatting with friends.
Memes have us in a chokehold.
But what's even more impressive is the impact they've had on our generation.
Memes have strengthened from something comedic into becoming communication, giving us the right as teens to express ourselves. Although, they still do great at making us laugh at ourselves and the situation we may or may not have put ourselves in. We've even adapted memes into our actual vocabulary with phrases like, 'I can't even,' 'girl, bye' and even the newest addition to our dictionary, as much as we would hate to admit it, 'scrumdilly yum yum my purr purr'.
And even more importantly, they have allowed us to create a community amongst ourselves. We share laughs, experiences and even heartfelt moments through them. Memes have become an unstoppable force in our generation.
All in all, they have had a powerful effect on our culture and the way we relate to one another. They've created a special sense of relationship and community within our generation and we will forever be grateful for the impact they have had on every one of us.
